New bills and funding for CA-49
Dear Neighbor,
It has been a busy week in Washington making great progress on key legislation to serve you. Keep reading for an overview on some of my latest votes and a few other highlights!
Legislative Updates
We had a full week of votes in Washington this week. Here are some of the highlights:
- I voted to pass the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022, a vital piece of legislation to support the men and women in uniform at Camp Pendleton and across the country. I'm proud the bill includes authorizations I requested for two national security projects at UC San Diego, two amendments I authored to support servicemembers’ economic opportunity and financial security, and a 2.7 percent pay increase for our troops.
- I voted to defend women’s constitutional right to reproductive health care with the passage of H.R. 3755, the Women’s Health Protection Act. This landmark legislation would enshrine the vital protections of Roe v. Wade and secures the right to reproductive care for all women across America.
- I also voted to pass a Continuing Resolution to fund the government through December and avoid a government shutdown. Working families count on the federal government to help provide vital services - any shutdown is catastrophic for those most in need.
- On Tuesday, I held a hearing for my Veterans Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity on 19 bills to address veteran homelessness, improve education benefits, and more. You can watch the entirety of the hearing here.
General Dynamics Tour
I recently joined General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company for a tour of the shipyard. General Dynamics has been designing and building ships in San Diego’s industrial corridor since 1960 and is the only full-service shipyard on the West Coast!
Veterans Stand Down
I also participated in the annual North County Veterans Stand Down. Veterans Stand Down is the culmination of a tremendous amount of compassionate work to honor and support our veterans, and I was proud to join in the event.
