Rep. Mike Levin Delivers Funds for Oceanside Police Department Vehicle Cameras

Oceanside, CA – Today, Rep. Mike Levin announced that the City of Oceanside Police Department has received $587,000 in federal funding he secured in the bipartisan Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations legislation. The Oceanside City Council voted yesterday to accept the funds, and the Oceanside Police Department can now move forward with the purchase of camera equipment.

The funding will be used to purchase vehicle cameras, including dash cams facing out of the front windshield of police vehicles as well as cameras for monitoring the back seat. This funding will enhance the existing Body Worn Camera system utilized by the Oceanside Police Department, expanding the number of perspectives on an incident where police action occurs.

“My number one focus is delivering results on our local priorities, and I am thrilled to see this funding getting to our community to address one of those priorities: improving public safety,” said Rep. Levin. “I’m proud to secure this funding to ensure Oceanside police officers have vehicle cameras that strengthen transparency, accountability, and trust in the community. I will continue to work to secure more funding for our district throughout future appropriations processes.”

“We are very grateful for Congressman Levin’s efforts to secure funding for our in-car camera project,” said Oceanside Police Chief Fred Armijo. “This system will be an additional step towards our continued efforts to create more transparency and windows of opportunity for our community to see into the Oceanside Police Department.”

Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA) secured the funding as part of bipartisan government funding legislation that was signed into law in March and included over $20 million for local governments and institutions in the 49th District. In July, Rep. Mike Levin (D-CA) joined Oceanside Police Chief Fred Armijo, Captain Sean Marchand, Mayor Esther Sanchez, and others to discuss the funding.
