Rep. Mike Levin’s Statement on New Agency Rule on Skilled Nursing Facilities
Washington, D.C.- Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) today released the following statement regarding the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) new rule on Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF) that requires all SNFs to report who their managing employees are and clarifies that SNF medical directors are managing employees.
“I’m glad to see that CMS took action to enact a transparency rule that puts into place many of the proposals in my bipartisan legislation, the Nursing Home Disclosure Act, H.R. 177, to improve reporting of nursing home medical directors. With this rule, CMS confirms that existing Affordable Care Act provisions referenced in my bill do indeed require nursing homes to report information about their management and medical directors, thus giving clients more transparency as they search for quality nursing homes and care for their loved ones.
“Seniors and their families deserve to choose a nursing home with full knowledge about the medical director on staff and who is making decisions about medical care. This rule is a significant win for accountability and transparency around nursing homes, and for people looking to get better information about nursing home management. I urge CMS to take the next step and ensure that this information is published on Medicare’s Care Compare website, so families can make informed choices for their loved ones.”
