Rep. Mike Levin Speaks in Favor of Naming the Oceanside Post Office for Charlesetta Reece Allen

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Mike Levin’s (CA-49) bill to designate the United States Postal Service facility located at 517 Seagaze Drive in Oceanside as the “Charlesetta Reece Allen Post Office Building” passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. Rep. Levin released the following statement after passage of the bill:

“Today, the House overwhelmingly supported my bipartisan bill to name the post office on Seagaze Drive in Oceanside after Charlesetta Reece Allen. Ms. Allen was a trailblazer for the Black community in Oceanside and improved the lives of the residents across North County.

“In addition to being one of the first Black residents of Oceanside, Ms. Allen was a pioneer and community leader. She was a businesswoman, a church pastor, and founder of the Oceanside Girls Club. I can think of no better honor than to permanently recognize her in our community.

“This legislation not only recognizes Charlesetta as a community leader, but also underscores the commitment our community shares to honoring those who have done so much for us. I’m grateful to my colleagues in the California delegation and throughout the House for supporting this legislation. I look forward to seeing this bill pass the Senate and then be signed into law.”

Rep. Levin’s bill has also received the support of the Oceanside Mayor Esther Sanchez, the full bipartisan Oceanside City Council, and San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond, who represents Oceanside.
