Rep. Mike Levin’s Statement on the “TikTok Bill”
Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) released the following statement regarding his vote in support of the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, or the “TikTok Bill.”
“I’m strongly concerned about the national security and privacy risks posed by TikTok. I’m also a strong supporter of free speech, and I know that millions of TikTok users—including those in my district—enjoy the community, artistic venue, and economic opportunity that the platform provides.
“However, as a China-based company, ByteDance poses serious privacy and data security threats to millions of Americans, which is why I supported the passage of the bill.
“This bill has not been signed into law and TikTok is not currently banned in the U.S. More importantly, this bill would not ban TikTok outright. It would require ByteDance, a China-based company, to divest its ownership from the app, after which the app could continue to operate in the United States.”
