Advancing President Biden's Build Back Better Agenda

Dear Neighbor,

It was a busy week here in Washington with substantial progress on President Biden's Build Back Better agenda. There is much more work to be done, but I am confident that we will deliver on this critical framework for the people of CA-49 and Americans across the country. Please scroll down for more from me on the Build Back Better agenda and other updates from this week.

Both the Build Back Better Act and the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act include key local priorities I fought for to support North County San Diego and South Orange County, and I’m proud we are closer than ever to delivering on those priorities. We have a once in a generation opportunity to create real transformative change for working families AND tackle the climate crisis.

Hearing on Supporting Servicewomen in Transition
On Tuesday, my Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity held a hearing on supporting servicewomen in their transition from military to civilian life. Though they don’t always receive the recognition they deserve, women have served alongside men in all of our nation’s wars, and it’s about time we dedicate our efforts to supporting the fastest growing veteran population -- women.

A Few More Updates:

  • On Wednesday, I introduced my bipartisan and bicameral Emergency Relief for Servicemembers Act to make sure servicemembers aren't stuck with extra cable, phone, or internet bills after receiving sudden stop movement orders.
  • October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this week I proudly voted yes for the Family Violence Prevention and Services Improvement Act. We must provide survivors with the proper support to safely move forward, and this bill modernizes and invests in programs to do that.
  • The deadline to register your application in the Congressional App Competition
is fast approaching! CA-49 middle and high schoolers have until this Monday, November 1 to participate. You can register here

¡Feliz Día de los Muertos!

I’m the grandson of Mexican immigrants on my mother’s side, and I’m always grateful for the chance to celebrate beloved Hispanic traditions like Día de los Muertos ofrendas with my colleagues. I loved stopping by my good friend Rep. Chuy Garcia's office ofrenda!

Remember to follow my FacebookTwitter, or Instagram pages for the latest updates from my office.

Have a great weekend and Happy Halloween!

Best,
