We Are Building Back Better!
Dear Neighbor,
Happy Friday, everyone! I have a lot to update you all on, including the passage of Build Back Better Act, the biggest investment in American families we have seen in decades. With that being said, we’ve made huge strides these past two weeks both here in Washington AND on the world stage, so let's get to it!
Build Back Better Act PASSES the House
Today, the House passed historic legislation that is going to improve the quality of life for countless families in North County San Diego and South Orange County.
The Build Back Better Act is going to make it easier to afford basic living expenses like prescription drugs, child care, and housing. Families struggling to put food on the table will get more help thanks to provisions similar to my Stop Child Hunger Act, and extending the Child Tax Credit will give families a tax cut to help cover the costs of raising kids.
The Build Back Better Act is going to make it less expensive to buy electric vehicles and put solar on rooftops, while also creating the clean energy jobs of the future right here in America. Taken together, the historic climate investments in this bill will help us stave off the worst effects of climate change that we feel in our community like increasingly severe wildfires and droughts.
I’m incredibly proud to help pass it. You can read my full statement here.
Busy Few Weeks Here in Washington!
United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26)
- On Monday, I had the opportunity to join President Biden as he signed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act into law.
- The Public Land Renewable Energy Development Act, a bill I’ve helped champion since I first came to Congress, received unanimous approval in the Natural Resources Committee. We must drastically expand renewable energy development if we are going to adequately reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the worst impacts of the climate crisis, and that’s exactly what this bill is designed to do.
- I’m also proud to announce that my bill to rename the San Diego Veterans Affairs Medical Center after Army Captain Jennifer Moreno, a decorated combat veteran from San Diego, passed the House with bipartisan and unanimous support!
