An Update on My Recent Work for You - Presidents' Day
Dear Neighbor,
Happy President’s Day! I hope you’re enjoying the holiday.
It’s been abusy February in Congress. While extreme House Republicans continue to do little to advance criticalborder security and foreign aid packages, I’ve been working hard to serve the people of California’s 49thDistrictby announcing new programs and introducing crucial legislation.
Here’s an update on my recent work for you.

Summer EBT Program Will Benefit Millions of Children
Last month, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that 35 states, including California, will be participating in a permanent Summer EBT Program, which will ensure 21 million children nationwide will have access to nutritious foods over the summer when schools are closed.
This week, I visited Mission Elementary School in Oceanside with USDA Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small to announce the details of the program and how students can participate.
Rep. Levin announces the Summer EBT Program
Qualifying families will now receive $120 per child in grocery benefits when schools close for the summer. Summer EBT is expected to serve over 3.8 million children in California.
To receive Summer EBT benefits in California, students must meet three qualifications.
First, they must have a household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty line. Second, they must attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program. And third, they must submit an alternative income form with their school OR their family must already receive SNAP benefits, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or Medicaid.
For California families that receive Medi-Cal, CalFresh, or CalWORKs – your child will automatically receive Summer EBT without an application. However, please make sure your address and family information are accurate and up to date with your county.
If your family doesn’tparticipate in these programs, but you think you might be eligible for Summer EBT, I urge you to request and fill out the alternative income form from your child’s school.

Impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas
I voted against the sham impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Don’t be fooled. This impeachment, led byextreme House Republicans,is political theater designedto distract you from the fact that they are unwilling to pass comprehensive immigrationreform and border security legislation. Speaker Mike Johnson and his far-right flank chose to move forward with this baseless impeachment at the behest of the former president instead of working with House Democrats on solutions.
100-Year Nuclear Canister legislation
Earlier this month, I joined Rep. Salud Carbajal (CA-24) in reintroducing the 100 Year Canister Life Act, which requires nuclear waste canisters to have a design life of at least 100 years. Currently, regulations set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) require nuclear waste canistersonly to have a 40-year lifespan. This legislation would expand the lifespan requirement as we find long-term solutions to store and dispose of spent nuclear fuel.
The San Onofre Nuclear Generation Station has over 3.5 million pounds of nuclear waste in storage and sits on the coast, next to Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, and on an active fault line. It’s vital that spent nuclear waste is protected in safe storage containers.

Interactive District Map
Earlier this month, I announced a new interactive map tool on my Congressional website that allows you to see where federal investments are being implemented in our district.
Since January 2019, we have delivered over $835 million in federal funding for the 49th.

It’s important that our taxpayer dollars come back to projects in our communities, and I look forward to continuing to deliver for our district. The map can be found?here.
