My response to the recent mass shootings

Dear Neighbor,

We have all been shocked by the recent mass shootings, including the tragic shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Every week during the school year when I’m home from Washington DC, I drop off my two kids, who are 9 and 8 years old, at our local public elementary school. But after Uvalde, now when I see them leave for the school day, I think of all the parents who have lost their children to gun violence — who won’t be able to see them ever again.

I’m also thinking of my own moral obligation to act as a member of the House of Representatives, a responsibility made clear when my 9-year-old son asked me, “Dad, what are you doing to help stop the next school shooting?"

I ask that you join me not only in praying for the families impacted by recent events but also with a renewed commitment to find solutions to address the scourge of gun violence in our country. We must pass common sense gun violence prevention measures and protect our communities.

Honoring Fallen Servicemembers on Memorial Day
I am eternally grateful to our fallen servicemembers and their families for the sacrifices they have made.

On Memorial Day, I was honored to pay tribute to our fallen servicemembers at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and speak with local veterans during Memorial Day events in Dana Point and San Clemente.

I'm so thankful for our community putting on these events to honor the men and women who bravely gave their lives for our freedoms.

Investing in Clean Buses
As a reminder, $1.7 million is coming to the North County Transit District for zero-emission buses.

I'm proud to have secured this funding for the construction of a hydrogen fueling station with capacity for fueling up to 50 fuel cell electric buses. This will help us expand transit opportunities, reduce pollution, and combat the climate crisis!

Expanding Renewable Energy
We must increase renewable energy development to combat the climate crisis and protect our planet for generations.

I'm thrilled that the Department of the Interior is implementing provisions of my legislation, the Public Land Renewable Energy Development Act, to cut rents and fees in half for renewable energy projects on federal public lands.

This will expand clean energy on public lands and lower energy costs for consumers!

Congratulating the Graduating Class of 2022
Congratulations to the Class of 2022!

I recently attended the San Juan Hills High School commencement and spoke to the Saddleback College graduating class, where I encouraged them to be passionate, be bold, and treat your mistakes as learning opportunities.

I'm so inspired by the courage and strength of our youth and excited about our next generation of leaders!
