Another update on my work for you

Dear Neighbor,

It has been a busy few weeks, so here's an update on my work for you, including important votes to help end the infant formula crisis, address high gas prices, and more.

Addressing the Infant Formula Shortage
The infant formula shortage is affecting thousands of families in our community and across the country. The current situation is unacceptable, and I’m doing everything I can to help end this crisis.

I was proud to recently vote for emergency funding to help ensure North County San Diego and South Orange County families can find safe and affordable infant formula.

I was also glad to see President Biden invoke the Defense Production Act to make sure that domestic manufacturers have the ingredients they need to make safe and healthy formula here in America. I was also glad to see the launch of Operation Fly Formula, which will help get formula back on shelves by using Department of Defense commercial aircraft to deliver infant formula from abroad that meets U.S. health and safety standards.

If you or someone you know are having issues finding formula, the Department of Health and Human Services has put together this resource to help families find formula near them.

Stopping Price Gouging at the Pump
Americans across the country are feeling the pain of high prices at the gas pump, and rather than helping provide some relief for consumers, oil and gas companies are jacking up prices and raking in record-breaking profits.

I recently introduced the Transportation Fuel Market Transparency Act to significantly increase transparency within oil and gas markets and direct the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to proactively prevent any fraud or manipulation artificially increasing gas prices.

I was proud to vote on this legislation as part of the Consumer Fuel Price Gouging Prevention Act, which passed the House last week.

We cannot allow Big Oil to take advantage of the war in Ukraine and other inflationary pressures to raise prices well beyond fair market rates. While that’s helped CEOs and shareholders line their own pockets with record profits, it does an incredible disservice to everyday Americans who are paying for it at the pump, and I won’t allow them to continue to get away with it.

Honoring Dr. John Cheng
Last week, I stood with my fellow Orange County colleagues for a moment of silence to honor Dr. John Cheng, who was tragically killed in the Laguna Woods shooting as he saved the lives of others.

My thoughts are with Dr. Cheng's loved ones, and everyone in Orange County affected by this heinous act.

Protecting Local Lagoons and Estuaries
CA-49 is home to many cherished lagoons and estuaries that help our local ecosystem and economy.

I recently introduced the bipartisan Resilient Coasts and Estuaries Act to protect estuary habitats like the San Mateo Creek, San Luis Rey River, and the San Elijo Lagoon. My bill would also add climate change mitigation to the goals of the Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program to ensure we preserve these lands and waterways for future generations.

Investing in Our Border Officers
I recently visited the border, and it's clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection needs more resources to address security and humanitarian challenges.

That's why I recently sent a letter to the Department of Homeland Security urging Secretary Mayorkas to submit an emergency request to Congress for funding to prepare for an expected increase in migrants at the border. Read more about the letter here.

Celebrating Armed Forces Appreciation Day
Over the weekend, I was honored to spend Armed Forces Appreciation Day with our brave servicemembers and their families at Oceanside Chamber of Commerce's Annual Operation Appreciation event.

I am honored to represent a district that celebrates every member of our Armed Forces, including our Marines, Sailors, and their families at MCB Camp Pendleton.
