THE LEVIN LETTER: We’re in a Stronger Position Than Ever to Invest in Our Community
Earlier this month, I was proudly sworn in for my fourth term in Congress.
As the 119th Congress begins, there are many challenges facing our district, including the cost of living, homelessness, border security, and climate change. I’m more committed than ever to working on a bipartisan basis for the good of our communities. As always, I’ll be focused on finding common ground and delivering results—regardless of the party in power.
Also this month, I was greatly honored to be appointed to the House Appropriations Committee. This powerful committee is integral to Congress’s “power of the purse.” It has responsibility for funding the federal government and allocating federal funds to congressional districts for different projects that address some of our most pressing challenges. These include projects to advance clean energy initiatives, job creation, and border security. Through this work, the committee delivers the investments that help families, lower costs, and grow the economy—both in our region and across the country.
It’s also important to note that the Appropriations Committee has limited membership. I will be the only member of Congress from San Diego County or Orange County to sit on the committee. As a result, I’ll be fighting to secure investments for not just the 49th District, but our entire Southern California region. I intend to be a voice for all residents of our region on this committee, and I take this responsibility very seriously.
Serving on the Appropriations Committee provides a new opportunity to deliver for issues that are important to our region, including spent nuclear fuel removal, sand replenishment, protecting our rail corridor, helping our homeless veterans, and much more. Having a role on this committee means I will be able to fight for our priorities from a more powerful position in Congress. I’ll have a direct seat at the table when deciding how to allocate government funding for our region.
Since I became a member of Congress back in 2019, I am proud to have delivered over $1 billion directly to the 49th District. This includes $100 million in federal funding from the Federal Railroad Administration for the Orange County Transportation Authority to bolster the San Clemente portion of our coastal rail corridor. I also helped secure over $47 million in federal funds to pump over a million cubic yards of sand onto our beaches. Projects such as these are clear examples of the positive impact federal funding can have on Southern California. Now, I’m well-positioned to make even more progress in securing investments for our region.
Although we enter the 119th Congress with many challenges to confront, I am looking forward to working on a bipartisan basis with my colleagues on the committee to deliver for the people of our district. I’ll make sure to keep you updated on the federal funding I secure and the local projects I’m working on. Make sure to subscribe to my newsletter through my website at levin.house.gov.
Together, we can do big things. Let’s get to work.
