ICYMI: Rep. Mike Levin Hosted Call with Select Committee on the Climate Crisis Chair Kathy Castor to Discuss Climate Crisis Report
San Juan Capistrano, CA – In case you missed it, U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) led a discussion on Monday with local climate change leaders and House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis Chair Kathy Castor (D-FL) to discuss their recently-released congressional climate action plan. During the call, local climate leaders highlighted the need for environmental justice, the value of local and resilient agriculture, sustainable clean energy infrastructure, fostering a cleantech economy, and more.
Levin and Castor were joined by Cleantech San Diego CEO Jason Anderson, City of Oceanside Development Services Principal Planner Russ Cunningham, Vista City Councilmember Corinna Contreras, and The Ecology Center Executive Director Evan Marks. You can watch the full discussion linked here.
The House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis was formed at the beginning of the 116th Congress to deliver comprehensive policy recommendations to other House committees on how to substantially and permanently reduce greenhouse gas pollution. The report includes specific proposals that would set the United States on a path to achieve net-zero carbon pollution by no later than 2050, save over 60,000 lives per year due to reduced air pollution, and save nearly $8 trillion by 2050.
