Rep. Mike Levin Elected as Vice Chair of House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs
San Juan Capistrano, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin (CA-49) was elected by his colleagues to serve as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. As Vice Chair, Rep. Levin will assist Committee Chair Mark Takano (CA-41) with operations of the Committee and help shape the Committee’s agenda for the 117th Congress. Rep. Levin will also serve for a second term as Chair of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, with jurisdiction over veterans’ education, employment and training, vocational rehabilitation, housing programs, readjustment of servicemembers to civilian life, and servicemembers civil relief.
“I am honored to serve as Vice Chair of the Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity, and I look forward to building on the bipartisan progress we have made for our veterans,” said Rep. Levin. “Veterans and their families have suffered greatly during this pandemic; I have seen veterans lining up at food banks and struggling to stay in their homes or find work. As the representative for Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and thousands of veterans in the region, one of my top priorities is helping veterans and their families get through this pandemic and improve the services they have earned. I know Chairman Takano and all of our colleagues on the Committee are dedicated to doing that important work, and I look forward to serving with them again.”
During the 116th Congress, Rep. Levin led more than a dozen bipartisan bills for veterans that were signed into law. He was the lead sponsor of the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 (H.R. 7105), a comprehensive legislative package that was the product of bipartisan work by members of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and others.
