Rep. Mike Levin’s Statement on the Street Release of Migrants in Oceanside
Oceanside, CA – Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) today released the following statement in response to the street release of migrants in Oceanside.
“This week’s street release of migrants in Oceanside represents an ongoing challenge that I am deeply concerned about. I have been in close communication with the City of Oceanside’s elected leaders and senior staff, as well as local social services organizations, to help the migrants who were dropped off here without a choice, and I applaud their responsiveness. I have also communicated my concerns to the White House about the lack of resources provided to our community to deal with this. I’m committed to ensuring a safe, rapid, and respectful resolution to this situation.
“These street releases, like previous ones, are a symptom of our broken immigration system. Congress must pass comprehensive immigration reform that provides the Department of Homeland Security with the resources and funding they need to receive migrants with dignity and respect. Instead, migrants are being used to score cheap political points. We need real solutions – not distracting partisan theater.
“I’m grateful for the work of the City of Oceanside and local organizations helping to receive these migrants. I will continue working to find solutions that appropriately enhance DHS’s capabilities, bring us closer to comprehensive immigration reform, and provide our communities with the tools they need to help migrants.”
