Introduced my bipartisan bill to address the waste at San Onofre

Dear Neighbor,

This week, we made great progress in addressing the nuclear waste at San Onofre, strengthening the United States Postal Service, and much more. Keep reading for more details and other highlights!

Introduced a Bill to Help Get the Nuclear Waste Off Our Beach

This week, I reintroduced my bipartisan Spent Fuel Prioritization Act to prioritize the removal of spent nuclear fuel from decommissioned nuclear sites in areas with large populations, high seismic hazard, and where the continued storage of spent nuclear fuel represents a national security concern.

With over nine million people living within 50 miles of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and Southern California experiencing some of the greatest seismic hazard in the country, as well as its location on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, the bill would make San Onofre one of the highest priority sites in the nation for the removal of spent nuclear fuel.

I'm proud this is a bipartisan effort with Representatives Darrell Issa, Scott Peters, Michelle Steel, Katie Porter, and Young Kim.

Passed the Bipartisan Postal Service Reform Act

I know many of you depend on the United States Postal Service for paychecks, lifesaving medications, tax returns, and more. However, years of underinvestment and burdensome financial restrictions have pushed this critical institution toward insolvency.

This week, the House passed the Postal Service Reform Act with broad bipartisan support to address the Postal Service's financial challenges, improve mail delivery, and support postal workers and retirees.

  • Monitoring the Laguna Beach fires: I have closely monitored the brush fire in nearby Laguna Beach, and I'm very grateful for the hard work Orange County firefighters have done to protect surrounding communities. Please continue to follow orders from the Orange County Fire Authority.

  • Working to address inflation: I know Americans are hurting from inflation, and we must do more to bring down costs. That’s why we passed the bipartisan infrastructure law to help unclog supply chains that drive up prices. It’s why the Senate needs to pass the America COMPETES Act to reduce our dependence on countries like China by manufacturing key products here at home. And it’s why we need to crack down on corporations raising prices while taking in record profits. I’m committed to using every tool at our disposal to address this challenge for working families.

  • Celebrating CA-49 Olympians: I was thrilled to congratulate Lindsey Jacobellis, an Encinitas local, on becoming the first American gold medalist at the 2022 Olympics! I also want to commend Carlsbad native Shaun White on an extraordinary Olympic career. Through five Winter Olympics appearances and three gold medal performances, Shaun has inspired us all and made our CA-49 community proud.
