Rep. Levin Delivers Check to the City of Vista
Vista, CA – Today, Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) joined Vista Mayor John B. Franklin and Vista City Councilmembers to present a $254,250 check for the Vista Transit Center Grade Separation and Planning Project. This project will improve safety and accessibility for the community by providing recommendations for bicycle and pedestrian crossings, bus stop improvements, and a grade separation plan to improve safety for road users.
“I’m thrilled to help bring additional affordable, safe, and accessible transportation options to Vista,” said Rep. Levin. “This funding will benefit everyone who uses transportation infrastructure in the area, including the over 9,000 people living within a half-mile radius of the Vista Transit Center. It is even more important given the fact that many nearby communities have been historically disadvantaged. I’m grateful that this project will create better transit options for our residents who need it the most.”
“The City of Vista deeply values Congressman Levin’s support,” said Mayor John Franklin. “Thanks to his efforts, we've secured funding that allows us, alongside the North County Transit District, to plan for a pivotal grade separation at the Vista Transit Center. This will enhance safety, minimize delays for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, and foster a well-connected, active, and transit-friendly community.”
The funding for the project comes from the Department of Transportation’s Areas of Persistent Poverty Program, which helps improve public transportation option in areas experiencing long-term economic distress. Rep. Levin voted for the funding for this program as part of fiscal year 2022 appropriations.
This funding complements the $2.231 million Rep. Levin delivered for sidewalk improvements in the adjacent Townsite neighborhood that will improve accessibility to the Vista Transit Center.
