Rep. Mike Levin Helps Pass Historic Build Back Better Act to Support Working Families and Combat Climate Change

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) voted to pass the Build Back Better Act with historic investments to support working families, combat climate change, and create millions of good paying jobs.

“Today, the House passed historic legislation that is going to improve the quality of life for countless families in North County San Diego and South Orange County. The Build Back Better Act is going to make it easier to afford basic living expenses like prescription drugs, child care, and housing. Families struggling to put food on the table will get more help thanks to provisions similar to my Stop Child Hunger Act, and extending the Child Tax Credit will give families a tax cut to help cover the costs of raising kids.

“The Build Back Better Act is also going to make it less expensive to buy electric vehicles and put solar on rooftops, while also creating the clean energy jobs of the future right here in America. Taken together, the historic climate investments in this bill will help us stave off the worst effects of climate change that we feel in our community like increasingly severe wildfires and droughts. I’m also proud the bill includes provisions similar to my American Coasts and Oceans Protection Act to end new offshore drilling activity that threatens our environment and our coastal economy. As I committed to our global partners at COP26, the Build Back Better Act shows America is back in the fight on climate change.

“These life-changing investments are being made without raising taxes on anyone making less than $400,000. Instead, middle class families will receive a tax cut through the restored State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, while massive corporations will finally have to start paying their fair share. Every family in the communities I serve is going to benefit from this monumental legislation, and I am proud to vote for it.”
