Rep. Mike Levin’s Statement on the Passage of a Continuing Resolution to Fund the Government
Washington, D.C.- Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49) released the following statement on the passage of a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the U.S government, and avoid a shutdown and disruption of services until November 17, 2023.
“I voted to pass this short term funding extension because it was the right thing to do for my district, our country, our troops, and millions of hardworking families who need access to government services and benefits.
“This is a win for House Democrats who fought hard to avoid extreme MAGA Republican spending cuts of up to 30%, which would’ve slashed crucial programs Americans rely upon. It largely keeps spending at Fiscal Year 2023 levels that Democrats passed last year and it fully funds President Biden’s request to address recent natural disasters across the country.
“However, I am disappointed that Speaker McCarthy and House Republicans did not include Ukraine aid. Funding for Ukraine is crucial to protecting democracy worldwide and putting an end to Putin’s illegal invasion. We must continue to support Ukraine in order to push back on the rising tide of autocracy and maintain the United States’ international leadership.
“Now, we must turn to finding an agreement to fully fund the government past November 17, 2023. I intend to work with my Democratic and Republican colleagues to reach consensus on a Fiscal Year 2024 government funding package that allows the government to deliver results for my constituents and protects our national security.”
