Representative Levin to Chair Congressional Hispanic Caucus Environmental Task Force

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin announced that he will Chair the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Environment, Public Lands, and Water Task Force. The Task Force is responsible for shaping CHC policy priorities and addressing environmental issues facing Hispanic and immigrant communities.

“All too often, Hispanic communities and socioeconomically disadvantaged regions suffer the worst impacts of environmental disasters and climate change,” said Representative Levin. “It is long past time that we place a renewed focus on environmental justice, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus can play a leading role in that effort. I am honored to serve as Chair of the CHC Environment, Public Lands and Water Task Force, and I look forward to pursing bold environmental protection policies with my friends in the Caucus.”

“The Congressional Hispanic Caucus will be focused on creating equal opportunities for all Americans throughout the 116th Congress and passing comprehensive immigration reform. CHC Task Forces will be instrumental in crafting and advancing policy priorities and legislation. Further, CHC Task Forces will work to hold the Administration accountable for its failed responses to the crisis in Puerto Rico, finding the best possible framework for comprehensive immigration reform, and increasing diversity across all sectors,” said Chairman Castro. “I’m also proud to announce the establishment of two new CHC Task Forces: the Women’s Task Force and the Arts and Technology Task Force—which will lead efforts to empower and uplift Latinas across the country, fight for women’s education, healthcare, and civil rights, and lead the way for innovation and increased opportunities in the STEAM sectors. With 38 Members strong, I’m confident these Task Forces will continue building on the Infrastructure of Opportunity so that all Americans have the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.”

In addition to his position as Chair of the Task Force, Representative Levin is also a member of the House Natural Resources Committee and the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition. As a longtime clean energy advocate, Levin will continue to focus on protecting our environment. He cosponsored legislation that will ban future offshore oil and gas drilling leases that threaten our water and marine life, and he was one of the first Members of Congress to endorse the Green New Deal.
