An Update on My Work for You

Dear Neighbor,

There’s been a lot of news coming out of Washington lately, and I want to take a minute to share some of what I’ve been working on for our district, as well as a few other updates. But first, I want to ask you a brief survey question:

Fighting for a Safer and More Inclusive Nation

June marks both Pride Month and Gun Violence Prevention Month, both reminders of our need to recommit to creating a safer and more inclusive nation.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the LGBTQ community and reaffirm our dedication to equality and human rights for all. As a member of the Equality Caucus, I’m proud to stand with all LGBTQ individuals in our community.

Simultaneously, Gun Violence Prevention Month highlights the urgent need to address the epidemic of gun violence that affects communities nationwide. Congress must pass sensible gun laws and support measures that reduce violence and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Together, these observances remind us of the importance of unity, respect, and action. I’m proud to stand strong in our pursuit of a more inclusive and secure nation.

Supporting Policies to Strengthen the Southern Border

Rep. Mike Levin joins Inside California Politics to Discuss Border Security

Recently, President Biden issued a set of executive actions to strengthen border security and reduce the strain of asylum claims on our border officials and court system, while also cracking down on those profiting from human smuggling.

The President’s executive actions are a step in the right direction. He needs to act in response to obstruction of bipartisan border security legislation. But make no mistake – executive actions are no substitute for comprehensive Congressional legislation. There is more work to be done.

Opposing the Supreme Court’s Ruling on Bump Stocks

Last week, the Supreme Court issued a ruling that reversed a federal ban on bump stocks, a device that effectively turns a semi-automatic firearm into a machine gun. Bump stocks have been used in some of the deadliest mass shootings in our country’s history, and it’s unconscionable that the Court would overturn a ban on these tools of war.

Congress must take action to right this wrong and pass common sense measures to ban bump stocks and assault weapons.

Supporting All Our Service Members

I’m committed to doing everything I can to support all members of our United States Armed Forces. That’s why I was disappointed to see the recent national defense bill include anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ amendments. Because of these poison pills, I voted against the bill as it currently stands.

Congress must work together, as it has for decades, to pass a national defense bill that increases pay for our junior enlisted service members and helps incentivize recruitment and retention.

Ensuring Water Security

2024-06-17 Funding for Water Security Projects

In the face of growing threats due to climate change, I secured $32.2 million dollars for three projects to increase water security in our district. These projects are essential for ensuring a sustainable and resilient local water supply for our community. By investing in innovative solutions like groundwater purification and desalination, we are taking significant steps toward protecting our water resources for future generations.

Securing Funding for Clean School Busses

2024-06-05 Clean School Busses

I’m excited to share that the Biden Administration announced the recipients of the EPA’s 2023 Clean School Bus program, which will provide schools across the nation with funding to purchase electric and reduced-emission school buses.

These buses will protect children’s health by limiting their exposure to polluted air, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and save school districts money.

I’m proud to have helped secure funding for this nationwide initiative, which includes over $91 million dollars allocated for 380 clean school buses in 47 California school districts.

I am especially thrilled that San Dieguito Union High School District has been selected as one of the pioneers for this program – receiving $800,000 dollars to purchase four clean school buses.

Renaming the Oceanside Post Office

2023-10-26 newsletter - Allen

Charlesetta Reece Allen

My bill to designate the post office on Seagaze Drive in the heart of Oceanside as the “Charlesetta Reece Allen Post Office Building” passed the House with bipartisan support. Ms. Allen was a trailblazer for the Black community in Oceanside and improved the lives of countless residents across North County. I look forward to my bill passing the Senate and then moving to the President’s desk for his signature.
