Representative Mike Levin to Serve on House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) was selected to serve on the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, a new Congressional body dedicated to addressing climate change. Representative Levin, one of the first Members of Congress to endorse the Green New Deal, will bring his background as an attorney focused on clean energy and environmental issues to the committee.

“Climate change is deadly serious, it is already having a detrimental effect on our planet, and we must enact bold policies that fundamentally change course to a sustainable energy future,” said Representative Levin. “I am honored to serve on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on measures that will treat the climate crisis with the level of urgency it deserves. I have two young children at home, and this is about leaving the planet better for them than how I found it.”

In addition to his position on the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, Levin also serves on the House Natural Resources Committee, as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Environment, Public Lands, and Water Task Force, and as a member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC). As a longtime clean energy and environmental advocate, one of Representative Levin’s top priorities is combatting climate change and protecting the environment.

Yesterday, Representative Levin participated in the first Congressional hearing on climate change in ten years, and highlighted the importance of acting on climate change with urgency. Click here for video of Levin’s remarks from the hearing.
