Representative Levin Joins Colleagues in Introducing Green New Deal Resolution to Address Climate Crisis

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) joined colleagues in introducing the Green New Deal resolution, led by Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). The Green New Deal outlines initiatives to help combat climate change by reducing fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions; secure clean air and water; and capture good-paying clean energy jobs of the future.

“Climate change is the defining issue of our generation, and we must act now to address this crisis before it is too late,” said Representative Levin. “The science is clear: we are experiencing record-breaking high global temperatures, rising sea levels, and more powerful storms. It is not too late to reverse course and shift to a sustainable energy future that also captures the clean energy jobs of the future, but we must act now. With a four- and six-year-old at home, I am gravely concerned about the planet that we will leave for them and their children. We need to push forward with a Green New Deal for their future.”

Representative Levin serves as a member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, the House Natural Resources Committee, as Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) Environment, Public Lands, and Water Task Force, and as a member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC). As a longtime clean energy and environmental advocate, one of Representative Levin’s top priorities is combatting climate change and protecting the environment.
